What type of development are you concerned about

What type of development are you concerned about?

Different industries and types of development put different stresses on the natural environment.  It is for this reason that much of government’s environmental regulation focuses on regulating the ills associated with particular industries.

Are you interested in laws and planning processes related to:

·         Agriculture – Farming and/or raising food animals, and in particular large-scale, industrial farming.

·         Aquaculture – The raising of penned fish and other sea-life, often in nets.

·         Coastal Development – Construction and maintenance of wharfs, weirs, and other development at the edge of the water.

·         Forestry – Logging operations, present and future.

·         Industrial Waste (Chemical Production) – Industrial processes which result in chemical or other waste.

·         Linear Development (Transportation, Powrlines, etc.) – Pipelines, highways, power-lines – anything designed to transport something.

·         Mining – exploration and operations – Looking for, claiming and taking minerals.

·         Oil & Gas exploration and extraction – Looking for, claiming and pumping gas and oil.

·         Plants (non-timber) – Wildcrafting, mushroom harvesting, etc.

·         Power Generation – Dams, thermal generators, alternative power.

·         Sewage – Municipal and individual sewage waste.

·         Shipping – Moving both passengers and/or goods by river or ocean.

·         Tourism – Overenthusiastic admirers of wilderness, recreational vehicles, etc.

·         Urban Development – Construction of housing, commercial and other space.

·         Water Storage & Utilities – Saving and using water for human uses.

It is not possible to develop a comprehensive list of all types of development; we have attempted to include activities that commonly pose problems for aquatic habitat.
